JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Cellular & Molecular Physiology at the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA has an NIH-funded Postdoctoral position available in Dr. Shengyu Yang’s lab to study the role of mitochondrial metabolism in cancer metastasis. Our goal is to reveal how the dysregulated actin cytoskeleton in metastatic cancer cells controls mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation by remodeling the mitochondrial actin filaments. This project is built on our recent discoveries that the actin cytoskeleton remodeling in metastatic cancer cells is able to control mitochondrial metabolism through regulating the homeostasis of mtDNA and the biogenesis of mitochondrial respiratory chain. Please see our recent publications for more information (Lin et al, 2019, Cell Reports, PMID: 31509745; Lin et al, 2019, EMBO Mol Med, PMID: 31633874). Biochemistry, cell biology, live cell imaging techniques, genetically engineered mouse models and patient-derived organoids / xenografts will be employed in the study.

Successful applicant will:

Be a highly motivated recent graduate

Have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree

Have expertise in cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or related fields.

Experience with fluorescence imaging, super-resolution microscopy and genetically engineered mouse models will be desirable but not required.

This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire.
