Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Reporting to the Lead Interior Designer, the Interior Designer is responsible for coordination of furniture orders with MCE from design concept development through installation for campus buildings and infrastructure projects, generally under $5M. Duties include interior finish selection and specification, generating furniture layouts, reviewing bill of materials, tracking orders, coordinating furniture deliveries, creation, and resolution of punch list. This position is expected to provide weekly reports to the interior design team regarding order status and maintain related project documentation. Maintain the department sample library keeping it organized and up to date, staying current on MCE product line availability. Other duties include conducting inventories of existing furniture and equipment, scheduling vendor presentations. Achieving high customer satisfaction by producing projects on time and under budget is of the utmost importance.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field. 

Experience:
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in interior design, planning, and furniture specification. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD, Word, and Excel.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings and coordinate with these disciplines.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with conflicting schedules.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships and provide excellent customer service.

Additional Certifications:

Licensure as an Interior Designer in the State of Maryland or a valid License eligible for reciprocal registration in the State of Maryland.

The hiring range for this position is $87,045-$105,000.

Physical Demands

This work will be performed primarily in an office environment. Incumbent will be expected to make site visits, visit confined spaces. Must have the ability to lift and carry drawings and samples. This position is telework eligible up to 2 X’s per week, subject to departmental approval.
