The College of Veterinary Medicine conducts clinical research as part of its mission to advance knowledge and improve animal health.

A Service Core of the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Clinical Studies Core offers resources and expertise to facilitate clinical research.

The mission of the Clinical Studies Core (CSC) is to support interactions between clinical and basic research groups within North Carolina State University and to expand collaborative relationships beyond the university with practicing veterinarians, animal owners, and industry partners.

Essential Job Duties

Under the direction of the Research Core Director, the Clinical Trial Coordinator is responsible for performing a variety of day-to-day activities as part of the Clinical Studies Core (CSC). The Clinical Trial Coordinator will work with other members of the CSC to provide support across multiple studies and will also be responsible for providing technical assistance to various projects. Specific duties will vary depending on the projects at any given time within the CSC.

Routine tasks will include: 
  • Clinical trial patient recruitment, enrollment, and animal handling
  • Obtaining and processing biological samples for enrolled patients
  • Tracking time spent on individual projects 
  • Coordinating multiple schedules to allow for optimal flow of clinical study appointments. 

Technical benchtop duties:
  • Extraction of DNA and RNA from biological specimens
  • Maintaining the database for the Biospecimen Repository
  • Laboratory maintenance.

Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Experience in Veterinary Clinical Medicine.
  • Experience working with companion animals but have the ability to work with a variety of species if needed.
  • Experience in animal handling/restraint, venipuncture, biological sample collection and processing.
  • Ability to follow and adhere to research protocols.
  • Ability to collect and maintain accurate records.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to assist in day-to-day activities and communication across multiple clinical research projects under several Principal Investigators and across multiple veterinary specialties.
  • Must be a self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage several projects at once.
  • Ability to provide high-quality customer service.
