The expected benefits of this type of program are:
1. Increased understanding of the various career opportunities in agricultural sciences for students.
2. Exposure of a larger population of under-represented students to careers in agricultural sciences.
3. A new realization and appreciation of the importance of agricultural sciences on a national and global scale for students.
4. Increased numbers of students entering the agricultural sciences program at North Carolina State University.

AgDiscovery at North Carolina State University is a two-week summer outreach program. The program targets diverse populations of current rising 9th-12th grade students from across the country who have displayed an interest in animal science, entomology, botany, and food safety. Rising 9th-12th grade students are determined to be the most appropriate level for AgDiscovery participation at North Carolina State University based upon factors including student safety and requisite skills, and knowledge and experience necessary for success in the program. Knowledge will be obtained through a series of workshops on and off campus. Hands-on experience will be provided through labs, workshops, and site visits.
The North Carolina State University program goals and objectives are to:
1. Increase awareness of career opportunities and possibilities in agricultural sciences such as botany, crop science, entomology, horticulture, and plant pathology;
2. Provide hands-on training in agricultural sciences
This will be the sixteenth year USDA-APHIS is sponsoring the AgDiscovery program at North Carolina State University. It is a benefit to both USDA and North Carolina State University to provide education and career opportunity for students interested in the field of agriculture.
The Instructor is needed for a 2 week camp for students ages 15-17. The instructor will be responsible for planning content (specifically plant sciences) and delivering approximately 30 hours of instruction, including individual or small group research projects.
