Summary of Position

The Assistant Director for Mid-Atlantic Recruitment is essential to supporting the Director of Admissions in meeting the enrollment goals and educational mission of PSU. The Assistant Director for Mid-Atlantic Recruitment will participate in all admissions-related activities relevant to the undergraduate residential and online graduate student population including, but not limited to, developing, and implementing a regional recruitment strategy; implementing a communication plan; managing the applicant pools; and developing and nurturing both domestic and international pipelines. The Assistant Director for Mid-Atlantic Recruitment will manage all recruitment events and territory management for the following states: NJ/NY/PA/DE/MD/DC/VA. This position is required to be a resident of one of the states listed in this description.

This position requires awareness of the importance of maintaining confidentiality, fairness, and the highest level of integrity in all aspects of admissions processing and decision-making.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to describe University programs and campus culture;
  • Public speaking skills;
  • Experience working with a multicultural student population;
  • Ability to work and initiate independently as well as in a team environment;
  • Understanding of data modeling;
  • Proficiency with Excel, Slate, and other data management tools;
  • Willingness to be innovative using technology in recruiting international students;
  • Ability to analyze domestic markets and determine ways to increase school’s presence for recruiting purposes;
  • The ability to plan, organize and implement programs and projects related to the University’s enrollment goals;
  • Ability to travel domestically and occasional nights and weekends will be required during peak seasons

Duty/Responsibility

  • Implement and manage innovative, data-driven student recruitment and admission activities;
  • Provide admission counseling to prospective students, high school counselors, CBO’s, community college transfer advisors, as well as other community members;
  • Present admissions information to prospective students and their families during on­ campus visits (as required by the Director of Admissions);
  • Review applications for admissions and make decisions on acceptance;
  • Manage a pool of inquiries and applicants from various sources and follow up as needed to move and guide applicants through the process toward admission;
  • Review and evaluate admission standards and regularly monitor student data to improve the student experience; and
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of student, staff and university information by exercising discretion in communicating information to faculty, staff, parents, alumni and current and potential students, and in handling departmental records and files and similar confidential materials.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Manage effective communications with prospective students, high school counselors, CBO’s and other community partners;
  • Working closely with university and external partners selected by the Director of Admissions, formulate and implement a strategic communication plan that follows the continuum from growing the graduate applicant funnel to prospective applicant inquiry, to application, to matriculation in support of overall admission and net revenue goals for the online and residential graduate student population;
  • Coordinate recruitment events in the defined territory as directed by leadership;
  • Manage and process applications of undergraduate admissions;
  • Regularly attend departmental and divisional staff meetings as an active participant;
  • Understand and work within the guidelines of all agencies and laws governing admissions;
  • Work with marketing to develop appropriate materials for recruiting and marketing;
