The University of Michigan-Dearborn Center for Social Justice and Inclusion is seeking energetic, hardworking students to serve in the position of Student Program Assistant.
The Center for Social Justice and Inclusion is dedicated to helping students succeed. The Office works to inspire, motivate, and support students through inclusive and intersectional programming and events to support and celebrate all students. About the experience:
As a paraprofessional member of the Center for Social Justice and Inclusion (CSJI) team, Student Program Assistants will support office initiatives, such as (Take Back the Night, Trans Day of Remembrance, Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration and other related events). The role will provide Student Program Assistants the opportunity to learn new skills and enhance existing ones.
 

Responsibilities*

  • Assist CSJI professional staff with programming through brainstorming, proposing and executing ideas, and supporting program facilitation
  • Assist with Zoom, and other video conferencing platforms, technical support during online and virtual programs and events
  • Recruits students, organizations, and departments to participate in CSJI programming through tabling & flyering throughout the school year
  • Creating graphics and flyers for Office programs and events as requested by staff members
  • Serve as a CSJI paraprofessional team member, participating in regular staff meetings, training, and office events, and supporting office functions by attending all programs for which there are no academic conflicts
  • Meet one-on-one with your supervisor bi-weekly (minimum) in order to effectively balance academics, personal and ICC obligations 
  • Facilitate and present CSJI workshops, with a professional staff member, to courses, students, leaders, faculty, staff and Dearborn community members
  • Manage the Office?s front desk, assisting all office clients, and serving as an initial contact for referral to appropriate campus resources
  • Ensure office mail is distributed, copy machines are operational, and the back room is neat and clean - notifying supervisor when items are running low
  • Other opportunities as assigned/needed by the supervisor
     

Required Qualifications*

  • Passion for community involvement, social justice, a willingness to build relationships with campus and community partners, the ability to motivate peers to accomplish a common vision, and knowledge of goal setting and strategic planning methods.
  • Currently enrolled student at UM-Dearborn. 
  • Ability to keep information confidential.
  • The desire to learn and grow as a part of a community.
  • Tolerance and acceptance of marginalized communities and identities that differ from your own. Intolerance will not be accepted.

  • Strong customer service. 
  • Dependability and strong, effective communication.
  • Ability to work in a team and a motivated self-starter.
  • Ability to set priorities and remain organized.
  • Academic background and/or interest/involvement in higher education, student affairs, multicultural affairs, antiracist education, LGBTQIA+ advocacy, women?s rights, gender parity, and/or social justice.
  • Understanding of the importance of intersectionality and intersectional solidarity.
  • Knowledge of the Adobe Suite of programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) and or Canva or other graphic design programs.
