DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager to whom he/she is assigned or the Administrative Director of Clinical Laboratories, the Pathology Supervisor is responsible for daily operations, activities and functions of Anatomic Pathology section to which he/she is assigned to include, and not limited to grossing, case distribution, histology and cytology processing, and digital pathology. Serves as reference to staff, Pathologists, and others in laboratory leadership, takes part in department operation planning, and ensures effective use of system resources. Participates in process improvement activities. Oversees staffing matrices, conduct performance evaluations, and discipline employees. Ensures policy and procedures are followed by staff. Ensures compliance with all regulating agencies. He/she consistently models the Core Values of UC San Diego Health and leads in a manner which visibly supports its mission and goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ten (10) years of related experience in a hospital laboratory setting, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree and Six (6) years in related area.

  • Experience and proven success in maintaining current knowledge of laboratory concepts, new methodologies and advances in the field of specimen processing, automation, and procedures.

  • Ability to apply principles in a clinical laboratory setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous laboratory supervisory experience in a hospital setting.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $91,300 - $170,700 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $43.73 - $81.75

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
