Position Summary
The IU School of Medicine (IUSM) Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation is seeking well-qualified and highly motivated applications for both scientist track and tenure track faculty positions. All academic ranks (Assistant to Full Professor) will be considered.
Research roles and responsibilities:
    • Develop programmatic research consistent with your expertise.
    • Identify relevant collaborators for research programs and foster appropriate collaborations.
    • Secure grant funding to support research lines and support salary.
    • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals.

 

Service roles and responsibilities: tenure track only
  • Develop and maintain active involvement in valued national academic institutions.
  • Participate and be active in professional services, within and across department levels, and service line activities within the IU School of Medicine, Indiana University Health, Veterans Administration (as appropriate), and the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana (RHI).
Teaching roles and responsibilities: tenure track only
  • Participate in the development, refinement, and implementation of a curriculum to help residents and medical students to learn about research.
  • Participate in advising and mentoring the IUSM medical students, PM&R residents, and PM&R faculty in research.
  • Incorporate faculty, resident, and medical student teaching into research activities where applicable.
  • Participate as needed in teaching the clinical staff at relevant facilities the skills needed to support research activities.
  • Support the PM&R graduate residency activities as needed.
Administration:
  • Participate in all initial and continuing educational activities related to compliance and regulatory issues related to research activities, and to submit required reports and documentation in a timely fashion.
  • If serving as a Research Director, additional responsibilities apply:
    • promote, organize, and coordinate research activities and grant applications for IU PM&R;
    • develop and maintain the research infrastructure for IU PM&R, including budget and financial reporting mechanisms in coordination with the department chair;
    • assure the ethical conduct of research and regulatory compliance;
    • provide supervisory responsibilities to IU PM&R Research Manager in coordination with the department chair;
    • assist IU PM&R faculty in developing and implementing selected small sample studies and program evaluation studies as supported internally by IU PM&R department;
    • work with the IU PM&R Residency Coordinator and other research faculty to coordinate the resident research didactics and provide educational opportunities for clinical staff about research and evidence-based practice;
    • oversee quarterly and annual reporting of department research activities;
    • develop and maintain relationships to further research activities;
    • support the department chair in efforts to encourage philanthropic giving to support the department’s research;
    • promote department research activities and infrastructure development across the school and local health systems.

Basic Qualifications
Doctorate or terminal degree required. Successful applicants must have PhD and/or MD degree.

Additional Qualifications
At least 3 years post-graduate experience in medical academic research with focus relevant to disability and rehabilitation.
