School/Institute: Leeds Social Sciences Institute
This academic leadership role is open to academic members of staff at the University employed within one of the five faculties participating in the Leeds Social Sciences Institute at Grades 9 and 10
The Leeds Social Sciences Institute is the keystone of cross-Faculty and cross-institution activities to enhance the reputation and impact of the social sciences at Leeds. It has the leading role in developing strategy and shared priorities across the social sciences, co-ordinating activities to enable researchers to target large interdisciplinary external funding opportunities and influence policy and practice in HE research and innovation funding. It showcases and profiles the activities of social scientists at Leeds, demonstrating critical mass to our peer and partners. It also supports social research methods development and skills training for the next generation of research leaders.
The LSSI is recognised as a key 'Platform' in delivering the University's Research and Innovation strategy, with a major role to play in fostering interdisciplinary research excellence with impact that addresses societal grand challenges. It hosts the Leeds arm of the ESRC White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership and the ESRC Impact Acceleration Account (the largest in the UK). In recent years, LSSI has developed international strategic partnerships with peer social sciences institutes at the University of Queensland, University of Buenos Aires and Nanjing University. Further information about the work of LSSI is available at: https://lssi.leeds.ac.uk/
To ensure that the social sciences are embedded in the wider research landscape at Leeds, the Director is supported by two Deputy Directors who each have oversight for a specific portfolio of the Institute's work. We are now seeking to appoint a Deputy Director to commence as soon as is feasible, with a term of office until 1 August 2023.
This academic leadership role is open to academic members of staff employed within one of the five faculties participating in the Leeds Social Sciences Institute (AHC, Environment, Social Sciences, LUBS, Medicine & Health) at Grades 9 and 10. It is an internal 0.1fte seconded role.
The successful candidate must have the support of their Head of School and will remain on their existing grade and salary level. You will be expected to have achieved and be able to maintain an active international research profile.
