The academic community at Roger Williams consists of more than 275 full-time faculty and a combined student population of 4,500 undergraduate and graduate students complemented by 483 law students and nearly 2,300 students annually in its University College credit and non-credit programs. With a unique and expansive portfolio of programs, the University is positioned to become one of the finest comprehensive universities in the country. Situated on the Rhode Island coast in Bristol, and in the heart of Providence, R.I., Roger Williams University is committed to strengthening society through engaged teaching and learning, so that students graduate with the ability to think critically and creatively and learn to apply practical skills to their chosen area of study.

Roger Williams University offers a wide array of academic programs across six schools of study, the School of Law, and the University College division. Students at the Bristol campus choose from more than 50 liberal arts majors in the humanities, arts and education, social and natural sciences, justice studies and a robust portfolio of professional degrees including architecture, business, and engineering and construction management. RWU faculty are experienced, hands-on teachers and scholars passionately committed to the student experience and to engaging in various modalities of teaching, including traditional, hybrid, and online courses. RWU is committed to educating the whole student – whether in classrooms, laboratories, research, field work, study abroad trips, or real-world projects in the community and across the globe.

Reporting directly to the University President, Ioannis Miaoulis, PhD, the Provost functions as the chief academic officer and is responsible for shaping the academic vision and setting and prioritizing the strategic goals for a vibrant, multi-campus university. In addition to leadership of the faculty, the Office of the Provost and division of Academic Affairs includes oversight for various offices and functions including: Scholarship, Learning, Technology and Teaching, Assessment, Student Academic Success, Global and International Programs, Community Engagement, and the Career and Professional Development Center.

The Provost will focus on attracting and retaining outstanding faculty who: dedicate themselves to teaching, scholarship and research; strengthen and promote curricular development; champion civic and experiential education; demonstrate a commitment to shared governance; and support and strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion at RWU. The Provost will value scholarship, promote a culture of philanthropy, support academic programming, encourage faculty development, embrace a holistic approach to student development, and demonstrate, across both campuses, a deep understanding of and dedication to student success. Candidates must be academic scholars possessing a terminal degree in their field, with a proven record of leadership and evidence of strengthening society through engaged teaching and learning.
