Mission: Ramapo College of New Jersey is New Jersey's Public Liberal Arts College,dedicated to providing students a strong foundation for a lifetime of achievement. Established in 1969, Ramapo College offers bachelor's degrees in the arts, business, humanities, social sciences and the sciences, as well as in professional studies, which include business, elementary education, nursing and social work. The College also offers articulated programs, including dental, optometry, chiropractic and health professions, as well as visual arts therapy and law, with colleges and institutions in New Jersey and New York.

Undergraduate students may choose to concentrate their studies in one of five schools with more than 539 course offerings and more than 36 academic programs. Ramapo College boasts an average student/faculty ratio of 18:1 and an average class size of 23; affording students the opportunity to develop close ties to the College's exceptional faculty.

The College offers part-time graduate programs leading to degrees in Accounting, Business Administration, Educational Technology, Educational Leadership, Nursing, Social Work and Special Education


This is a full-time, managerial position, and days of work and hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm. Note: This position is in the "NL" category of employment (non-fixed work week) and individuals in this role have no claim or entitlement to time off or cash compensation for hours worked beyond their normal schedule. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. It is the policy of the College to grant hour for hour compensatory time off, with advance approval, only when employees are required to work on a holiday. Time earned must be used within one fiscal year from the time it is earned.


The Vice Provost for Academic Programs reports to the Provost and oversees: general education, online education; curriculum development, implementation, and assessment; academic program reviews, academic policies, and application of academic standards. The Vice Provost supervises the Directors of the Faculty Resource Center, the Instructional Design Center, Roukema Center for International Education, the College Honors Program, the Office of Fellowships, the Living Learning Program, and First Year Seminar. The Vice Provost performs the duties of the Provost in his/her absence and acts as a representative of the Provost in assigned capacities.


Curriculum and Assessment

  1. Takes the lead to further develop and implement Ramapo's academic masterplan that focuses on developing new academic programs that complement the liberal arts core and are aligned with students' needs and the economic environment;

  2. Takes a leading role in the college's Middle States reaccreditation process;

  3. Oversees General Education;

  4. Advances Ramapo Online: Coordinates the development of online programs;

  5. Coordinates and facilitates assessment at Ramapo College;

  6. Assists with academic planning, taking a leadership role in the area of curriculum and assessment of programmatic and student learning outcomes;

  7. Supports the work of conveners and academic deans in completing reviews of all degree programs, articulation and development of learning outcomes assessment instrument(s), and the use of assessment results for curriculum revision;

  8. Further develops and implements systems to comply with mandated outcomes assessment of student learning, including general education and the majors, and conducts and disseminates research on related issues;

  9. Serves as an ex-officio member of and Provost's liaison to the Academic Review Committee (ARC) and General Education Curriculum Committee (GECCo);

  10. Assists with data reports as required by various agencies.

Academic Standards and Policies

  1. Oversees the implementation of the Academic Integrity Policy;

  2. Monitors academic progress of students and implements student academic action as prescribed by the academic standards policies of the faculty;

  3. Is the final arbitrator in the matter of grade appeals and related complaints;

  4. Chairs the Committee on Academic Standards and Procedures and brings recommended policy/policy changes to the Provost's Council; and

  5. Serves as the administrator for Academic Achievement Ceremony.

Additional Responsibilities

  1. Contributes to student success initiatives;

  2. Provides administrative oversight over directors and budgets of the following units: First Year Seminar, Faculty Resource Center; Instructional Design Center; International Education; College Honors Program; Office of Fellowships; and the First Year Learning Community;

  3. Recommends on resource allocation and the academic planning process, based on program reviews and other assessments;

  4. Chairs the Provost's Council;

  5. Advises the Provost, the Provost's Council, the Graduate Council; the Academic Review Committee, and the Committee on Academic Standards and Procedures on recommended academic policy changes;

  6. Interacts with a variety of offices (e.g. Registrar, IR, Academic Advising, Dean of Students, etc.) to ensure good working relationships; and

  7. Other duties as assigned by the Provost.



Education and Experience:

Doctorate or appropriate terminal degree; three years administrative and/or leadership experience with budget oversight.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong oral, written and analytical skills;

  • Familiarity with liberal arts curricula, online education, professional programs and their standards, assessments, and evaluations.

  • Understanding of current pedagogical practices in both graduate and undergraduate higher education.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with a team-based approach to leadership.

  • Ability to adjudicate academic and related issues among students, faculty and staff.

  • Commitment to the highest level of academic and personal integrity, high academic standards, diversity and intercultural understanding, interdisciplinary and experiential learning, internationalization of the curriculum, and continued professional development.
