Position Summary:

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department has an immediate opening for a Research Fellow to participate in an exciting project in one step nitrogen removal by the recently discovered, novel anammox bacteria. The research is sponsored by Renmantix, Inc. The initial offer is for 18 months starting immediately, and future continuation is contingent upon performance and availability of funding.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Research Fellow will use wet chemistry and analytical and molecular techniques to investigate ammonia oxidation to nitrogen gas by anammox bacteria and use research results for process development.

Minimum Qualifications:

The candidate must have strong analytical chemistry skills and willingness to learn molecular biology methods such as quantitative PCR. A Ph.D. degree in environmental or chemical engineering is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with analytical equipment such as GC and HPLC, analytical problem solving, creative process design, as well as good oral and written communication skills are preferred. Candidate must be willing to work closely with Dr. Duran and students, undergraduate and graduate. The candidate is expected to actively pursue high quality publications and participate in generating new ideas and writing technical proposals.
