Position Summary

The Associate Provost for Academic Affairs provides high-level administrative oversight and guidance on projects, priorities and initiatives for the Office of the Provost. The position assists the Provost on policy development, strategic planning and faculty/staff/student relations as needed. The Associate Provost for Academic Affairs will have the opportunity to develop innovative curriculum and lead the efforts in faculty recruitment, and establishing policies and procedures commensurate with the University Mission and Vision. Direct reports to this position include the Office of the Registrar, Career and Calling, Testing and Disability, Student Success and Advising, the Library and the Assistant Provost. The Associate Provost for Academic Affairs reports directly to the Provost.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversees the development of new academic programs

  • Provides leadership and coordination for all academic advising (Degree Works)

  • Reviews/prepares academic articulation agreements

  • Represents the academic interests of the Provost Office on committees, academic searches, guest lectures/lecturers, and community engagement as needed

  • Develops and maintains an effective communication program on behalf of the Provost. Interacts with all academic departments, programs, committees, and councils to uphold academic priorities and maintain oversight of printed materials

  • Analyses and interprets academic data to enable informed decisions

  • Ensures timely reciprocal exchange of information among top management, faculty and staff

  • Reviews and, when appropriate, intervenes in cases of student complaints, conduct, and grade appeals, and serves on related committees. Meets with concerned parents as appropriate to discuss requests or complaints and determines best course of action for effective resolution

  • Chair and/or participate in key University committees related to academic planning, policy, academic webpages, curriculum, etc.

  • Participates in the review and modification of existing academic policies and the development of new academic policies

  • Promotes excellence in teaching, learning and faith integration, and fosters an environment of continuous improvement, innovation and positive relationships between faculty, staff and students

  • Performs annual evaluations for the leadership of direct reports

  • In the absence of the Provost, act on behalf of the Provost as necessary to continue the operations of the Office of the Provost


  • An earned doctorate from an accredited university and a minimum five years of administrative experience in a leadership position in higher education

  • Knowledge of legal issues as they relate to higher education

  • Distinguished academic record

  • Experience in budget preparation

  • Ability to foster excellence in program development

  • Ability to direct the work of others while motivating output

  • Demonstrated academic leadership, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and good judgement

  • Ability to formulate and articulate sound policies and demonstrated ability to identify, resolve and consult on a wide range of administrative issues with a clear sense of institutional needs and priorities

  • Ability to represent the university in a positive and professional manner

  • High standards of integrity, ethical conduct, and confidentiality

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Commitment to customer service
