Instructor/Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Frostburg State University, Department of Mathematics, seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track Instructor/Assistant Professor of Mathematics position to begin Fall 2019. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes University System of Maryland benefits package.
The Department of Mathematics is located in the state-of-the-art Gira Center for Communications and Information Technology opened in 2014. We support a number of academic programs in addition to serving approximately 70 students who major or minor in Mathematics.
FSU is located on a scenic 260-acre campus in the Appalachian-Highlands of Western Maryland, a region rich in history and outdoor recreational activities, just two hours southeast from Pittsburgh and two hours west of the Washington, DC and Baltimore metro area.
Teach a variety of undergraduate Mathematics courses from introductory to advanced. Advise majors. Assist with program assessment and development of materials to support active learning. Support STEM education outreach programs. Active participation in departmental and University service and development of a program of scholarship that includes undergraduate students are expected.
Doctorate in Mathematics, or closely related field required for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Exceptional ABD may be considered initially for appointment at the rank of Instructor, but must complete doctorate within a specified time in order to enter the tenure track. Must be committed to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population. The department is especially interested in candidates with a clear potential for an inclusive and student-centered teaching style. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to contribute positively to a collegial environment required. Early-career candidates with interest in teaching at a regional comprehensive university are strongly encouraged to apply.
