Reports to the Principal Investigator. Responsibilities include designing, conducting, and analyzing scientific experiments in her/his field; presenting research results in oral and written formats; developing and maintaining knowledge of the current scientific literature. Operates highly independently. May supervise lower level project employees.

 

Principal Functional Responsibilities

1) Devises new protocols and techniques for research projects.
2) Consults with faculty on projects and provides guidance to students; instructs and trains students and research staff in established techniques and procedures.
3) Presenting research results in oral and written formats
4) Responsible for maintenance of laboratories, equipment, and supplies.
5) Maintains general laboratory cleanliness and safety, and enforces regulations as necessary.
6) Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

Education:
PhD (Biochemistry/Molecular Biology/Pharmacology) preferred; MD degree if sufficient research training is documented

Experience:
Some experience working with human cartilage and chondrocytes, extraction and analysis of plant polyphenols, transgenic/knockout mice development, protein-protein interactions, NGS and analyses of data, experience of proteomics techniques and approach, cloning and library construction, good laboratory practices, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

Required qualifications plus a strong record of productive research supported by publications in peer reviewed journals and a proven ability to work in a group setting. Applicants with bench expertise in cellular biochemistry, molecular biology, and, preferably miRNA and RNAi methodology, along with skills in data acquisition and statistical analysis are highly desirable and will be given preference. Experience of working with rodents during the undergraduate or post-graduate studies will be a plus.

 

Physical Requirements

Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and screen and other office equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear and occasionally stand, walk, reach, stoop, or kneel. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
